This qualitative research project (September 2005-April 2007) focuses on dancers' perceptions and understandings of dance injuries and is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). It has received full ethical approval through the University of the Arts London Ethics Committee. Helen Thomas is the Principal Investigator and Jen Tarr is the Research Fellow, both of whom are trained in dance and sociology.

WE HAVE NOW REACHED OUR TARGET OF 200 DANCERS!!!!!

The call for dancers to particate in the research is now closed. We are now in the process of analysing the vast amount of data that has been gathered.

The reseach team wish to send a very large thank you to all the dancers who have participated in the project and have given up their precious time to be involved in the scanning, interviewing and pain mapping process. If we add travelling time to the interview process itself which takes over an hour to complete, then many of the participants have had to take at least a half day out of their schedule to be involved in the project. We really appreciate this commitment to what we consider to be a very important and large-scale qualitative project.  We would also like to thank the dance organisations, institutions, companies and individuals who have been pro-active on our behalf, by putting up posters, attaching details to their website and/ or have encouraged dancers to participate in the study. Without such support, it would have been impossible to interview this number of dancers within the required space of time.

For those people who have not directly participated but would like to know what the project involved for the participants, please read the introduction information (pdf)
